Why are you running as a candidate for the ISSA Athletes' Commission?

"I am running as a candidate for the ISSA Athletes’ Commission because I believe in the importance of giving athletes a strong and independent voice in shaping the future of sport. Throughout my career, I have represented Algeria at the highest level, including the Olympic Games, African Games, Mediterranean Games, and Islamic Solidarity Games. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of the challenges and aspirations of athletes from our region. As a member of the Athletes’ Commission of the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee, I have already worked to represent my fellow athletes and to promote their rights and interests. I want to bring this commitment and experience to the ISSA level, to contribute to fair governance, to strengthen athlete representation, and to ensure that decisions always reflect the perspectives of those on the field of play. My goal is to be a bridge between athletes and decision-makers, to listen, to advocate, and to support initiatives that foster integrity, transparency, and opportunities for all athletes in the ISSA community."

What experience do you have that you would bring to the ISSA AC?

I bring extensive experience as an elite wrestler who has competed at the highest international level, including the Olympic Games, African Games, Mediterranean Games, and Islamic Solidarity Games. These competitions have allowed me to understand the diverse needs and challenges faced by athletes from different backgrounds. In addition, I serve as a member of the Athletes’ Commission of the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee, where I have gained valuable experience in athlete representation and sports governance. This role has taught me how to listen to athletes’ concerns, advocate for their interests, and work collaboratively with sports institutions. Through both my athletic career and my administrative involvement, I have developed leadership, communication, and teamwork skills that will help me contribute effectively to the ISSA Athletes’ Commission and ensure that athletes’ voices are well represented.

Why should your fellow athletes vote for you?

My fellow athletes should vote for me because I understand their challenges, having lived the same journey as an elite athlete competing at the Olympic Games, African Games, Mediterranean Games, and Islamic Solidarity Games. I am committed to being a true representative of their voices, ensuring that their concerns and ideas are heard at the highest level of ISSA. As a member of the Athletes’ Commission of the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee, I have already proven my dedication to defending athletes’ rights and supporting their development. I will bring this same energy, integrity, and responsibility to the ISSA Athletes’ Commission. I believe in teamwork, transparency, and fairness, and I want to work with and for athletes to strengthen their role in sport and to create better opportunities for the next generation.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced as an athlete?

The biggest challenge I have faced as an athlete was qualifying for and competing at the Olympic Games. Reaching this level required years of sacrifice, overcoming injuries, balancing training with personal life, and staying motivated despite setbacks. Representing Algeria on the Olympic stage was both an honor and a test of resilience, and it taught me the importance of perseverance, discipline, and mental strength in achieving success.

How did you become involved in sport?

I became involved in sport at a young age through my passion for wrestling, which is a traditional and respected discipline in Algeria. I started training in my local club, where I quickly developed a strong commitment to hard work and competition. With the support of my coaches and family, I progressed step by step to the national team, which gave me the opportunity to represent Algeria at continental and international levels. Sport has been a driving force in my life, shaping my values of discipline, respect, and perseverance.

How has sport had an impact in your Life?

Sport has shaped my life in every way. It has taught me discipline, perseverance, and respect, and it has given me the chance to represent my country on the international stage, including at the Olympic Games. Through sport, I have learned how to overcome challenges, work as part of a team, and inspire others. It has opened opportunities, built my character, and made me who I am today both as an athlete and as a person.

What would be your top three priorities if you were elected?

Strengthening Athlete Representation – Ensure that all athletes’ voices from ISSA member countries are heard and considered in decision-making. Improving Athlete Support – Advocate for better training conditions, health, education, and career transition programs for athletes. Promoting Integrity and Fair Play – Work to guarantee transparency, fairness, and equal opportunities for all athletes in competitions and governance.

Describe your personality in three words?

Dedicated Responsible Team-oriented

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about sport, athlete development, and representing the voice of athletes. I care deeply about fairness, integrity, and creating opportunities for young athletes to succeed at both national and international levels.

Why is the athletes' voice important to you?

The athletes’ voice is important to me because athletes are at the heart of sport, and their experiences and perspectives must guide decisions that affect them. Too often, athletes face challenges without being consulted. By ensuring their voice is heard, we can promote fairness, protect their rights, and create conditions that allow them to perform at their best. Giving athletes a platform also inspires trust, unity, and progress in sport.
