Why are you running as a candidate for the ISSA Athletes' Commission?

"I am running as a candidate because I am a fervent advocate for the rights and well beings of athletes. I believe that athletes need to have a strong willed, informed and empathetic voice at the forefront and most importantly at the decision making stage. As an individual that has first hand experience balancing one’s personal development with being a high performing athlete in our respective sports, I comprehend the pressure; not just in competitions, but in recovery, career transition, mental health and representation. I want to be that voice to ensure that every athlete regardless of their background, level or discipline is being heard and also supported."

What experience do you have that you would bring to the ISSA AC?

I bring leadership, athlete experience and a strong commitment to athlete education and welfare. As an athlete, I understand the daily demands it comes with. The pressure from training, competitions to injuries and recovery, the mental health issues etc. Being a certified sports administrator, I’ve developed a deep understanding of Athlete Safety and performance, their mental health and development beyond sports and also my legal background which makes it easier to advocate for their rights and regulations that governs and protect us.

Why should your fellow athletes vote for you?

I believe that they should vote for me because as an athlete I live with the challenges, the sacrifices we make just for the love we have for sports. I am contesting to ba a voice, a change maker that truly listens, speaks up when it counts and work relentlessly hard to make sure your needs and concerns are heard at the highest level.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced as an athlete?

My biggest challenge I have had as an athlete is being a female athlete in a community where they believe that women and girls shouldn’t engage in sporting activities and also the lack of support

How did you become involved in sport?

I’ve been in love with sports from my kindergarten days where I ran track and field events, from there I played football to which I was very talented and had a future in but eventually, I in junior school, we were out for P.E when my friend took the basketball and started shooting. Then I said to her what is so fun about shooting a ball? It isn’t like it’s hard to make a shot. Then she challenged me to shoot and make a basket if I thought it were that simple: I took shots upon shots but each time the ball came right back at me and it didn’t stop there, she kept laughing at me! From that day I said I’d go learn how to shoot a ball and that’s where it all started for me as a basketball player.

How has sport had an impact in your Life?

Sports has boosted my confidence in so many ways. It got me engaged. It made me the leader I am today. Through sports I’ve learned to be independent, focused and determined. It made me a go getter because I always want to be the best in whatever I am doing. It has also taught me the power of unity and team spirit .

What would be your top three priorities if you were elected?

My top three priorities if I am selected will be 1. Stronger Athlete Representation 2. Athlete Well-Being 3. Career Developmental during and after Sports

Describe your personality in three words?

1. Empathetic 2.Collaborative 3. Driven

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about empowering athletes to reach their full potentials not just in sports but also in life.

Why is the athletes' voice important to you?

The voices of athletes is important to me because no one understands the athletes experience better than the athletes themselves.
