What is Duathlon?
The duathlon is a multisport race combining running and cycling, typically structured as "run–bike–run." It originated in the 1970s as an alternative to triathlon for athletes preferring to avoid swimming. Managed by World Triathlon, duathlon has grown internationally with events ranging from amateur races to elite championships.Duathlon and the ISSA
Duathlon is featured at the Games for the first time and competitions will take place on 14–15 November 2025 at Sand Sports Boulevard, featuring 50 athletes (25 men / 25 women) competing for 2 gold medals.Allocation & Eligibility
The host nation is guaranteed two places, while all other available spots are allocated through the World Triathlon Duathlon Rankings.
A further 18 places are awarded to NOCs according to their two highest-ranked athletes.
The five remaining places, plus any other unallocated slots, will be assigned as invitations by World Triathlon and ISSA to ensure universality.
The same eligibility rules apply to both the host nation and ranking-based qualifications.
NOCs may allocate a maximum of six athletes (three men/women) per individual event.
Registered athletes must meet the minimum age requirement of being at least 16 years old by 31 December 2025 and be listed in the World Triathlon Duathlon ranking as of 18 August 2025.
