What is Para Athletics?

Para Athletics was one of eight sports featured in the inaugural Paralympic Games in Rome in 1960. It includes a wide range of disciplines across track and field, using adapted equipment such as wheelchairs and prosthetic devices that enable athletes with physical impairments to compete at elite levels.

Para Athletics and the ISSA

The Riyadh 2025 edition will feature 64 athletes (32 men / 32 women) competing for 12 gold medals from 17 to 20 November 2025 at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium.

Allocation & Eligibility

Athletes must hold an active World Para Athletics Licence for the 2025 season and meet all eligibility requirements outlined in Regulation 4.2 of the World Para Athletics Rules & Regulations. They must also have a sport class status of either ‘Review’ (R) or ‘Confirmed’ (C). To be considered for selection by their NOC, athletes must achieve the required ranking position, which can be verified on the official World Para Athletics website for Riyadh 2025. If the host nation, Saudi Arabia, does not qualify for an event through the standard NOC athlete allocation by ranking, it will be granted an additional entry slot.
