What is Wrestling
Wrestling is one of the world’s oldest sports, dating back over 5,000 years to ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia and Egypt. In Freestyle Wrestling, leg attacks are allowed and wrestlers often adopt a lower, more defensive stance to counter this. Freestyle is also known for its fluidity and emphasis on transitions between various techniques. In Greco-Roman, Wrestlers cannot grab, hold or use the legs and there are strict penalties for movements that break these rules. Instead, this style relies heavily on upper-body power and arm strength, with wrestlers typically adopting an upright position. Wrestling will feature 216 athletes competing in both freestyle and Greco-Roman disciplines for 18 gold medals from 18 to 21 November 2025 at Boulevard Arena 01A.Allocation & Eligibility
Freestyle:
UWW will assign 72 athlete slots per gender, based on NOC/NSF participation in UWW ranking series events, UWW world rankings and universality.
NOCs may enter a maximum of six athletes per gender and one athlete per individual event. The host nation will be allocated one slot per individual event.
Greco-Roman:
UWW will assign 72 male athlete slots, based on NOC/NSF participation in UWW ranking series events, UWW world rankings and universality.
NOCs may enter a maximum of six male athletes and one athlete per individual event. The host nation will be allocated one slot individual per event.
