The Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) today at the 14th ISSA General Assembly, chaired by HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, President of ISSA, awarded the 7th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games, in 2029, to the state of Selangor, Malaysia.
The decision was taken after an ISSA delegation and Games Commission, led by Secretary General Nasser Majali, conducted inspection visits to all three candidate countries. The delegation assessed the readiness of each candidate’s capabilities to host the Games including technical standards, logistics, and operational readiness.
Reflecting a collaborative spirit, all candidates agreed to support Malaysia’s bid. Following this, the Games Commission recommended Selangor, Malaysia as the Host City for the 2029 Islamic Solidarity Games to the ISSA Executive Board, which then endorsed the selection.
The ISSA’s membership formally approved Selangor’s candidacy at the ISSA General Assembly today.
“The Islamic Solidarity Sports Association is delighted to select the state of Selangor, Malaysia, as the host of the next edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2029,” said ISSA Secretary General Nasser Majali. “Selangor will be the perfect place for our multisport games to showcase peace, inclusivity, and sustainability, and for ISSA athletes to shine.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Iran and Uzbekistan for their excellent bid submissions and collaborative spirit throughout the entire process. We were delighted to have three spectacular candidates, and this reflects the importance of sport across the ISSA’s membership and the value provided by the Islamic Solidarity Games.”
In addition to the announcement of the host of the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2029, delegates were given several important reports, including an overall update on the Islamic Solidarity Games - Riyadh 2025 and the timeline for the ISSA Executive Board Elections 2026.
The ISSA General Assembly confirmed that Saudi Arabia will host the ISSA Session 2026 and 15th General Assembly Meeting, with the exact date, city and venue to be communicated at a later date.
