Suriname's Collaboration With ISSA
The Suriname Olympic Committee was established in 1956 and was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1959. Suriname began participating in the Islamic Solidarity Games from the first edition in 2005 and also took part in the Baku 2017 and Konya 2021 editions.

Miguel van Assen
Miguel van Assen made a major impact at the fourth edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games – Baku 2017 – by winning two medals for Suriname: a silver in the long jump and a bronze in the triple jump. He had previously won a gold medal in the triple jump at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.
