Why are you running as a candidate for the ISSA Athletes' Commission?
"I am running for the ISSA Athletes’ Commission
because I want to represent athletes from the
Arab region, share their concerns, and ensure
their voices are heard. As an athlete myself, I
understand the challenges and opportunities
that come with competing internationally.
Through this position, I aim to connect with
athletes, promote fair play, and provide them
with support and opportunities they might have
missed due to difficult circumstances."
Retaj Alsayah
Athletics AthleteAs an athlete, I have faced many challenges and
obstacles throughout my career. These
experiences have pushed me to achieve at the
international level, and my performances have
earned me top positions in youth and junior
competitions. I know very well the
consequences of neglect and lack of support,
and how athletes can be denied their rights at
the peak of their potential. Through the ISSA
Athletes’ Commission, and with your support, I
aim to reach out to athletes, guide them, and
help them achieve global success, making us
proud as Arabs. With over 10 years of
dedication, training, and competitive
experience, I understand the struggles athletes
face and know how to work with them
effectively
My fellow athletes should vote for me because I
truly understand their struggles, challenges,
and sacrifices. I have lived through years of
neglect and obstacles, yet I managed to reach
the Arab and continental stage and proudly
raise the flag of Libya. With over 10 years of
training and competition experience, I know
what it takes to support athletes and stand by
them in their journey. I want to be their voice, to
defend their rights, and to create more
opportunities so that together we can achieve
success and make the Arab world proud.
The biggest challenge I have faced as an
athlete is the lack of support and neglect that
many athletes in my region experience. Despite
these difficulties, I never gave up. Through hard
work and dedication, I managed to make history
in Arab athletics by setting an Arab record that
still stands today. This achievement proved that
even with limited resources, determination and
perseverance can lead to success.
I became involved in sport through school
activities when I was 10 years old. From an early
age, I discovered my passion and talent for
athletics, which later led me to specialize in
discus throw and hammer throw and pursue a
professional career.
Sport has had a profound impact on my life. It
has shaped my character, giving me strength,
confidence, and the ability to speak up and
listen to others. Through sport, I have learned
not to fear anything as long as I am standing for
what is right. It has taught me discipline,
perseverance, and the importance of hard work,
which I apply in every aspect of my life.
If I am elected to the ISSA Athletes’
Commission, my top three priorities would be:
-Representing athletes and defending their
rights, ensuring that their voices are heard and
respected.
-Providing opportunities for Arab athletes to
participate in regional and continental
competitions, helping them reach their full
potential.
-Communicating with athletes and supporting
their development, offering guidance,
encouragement, and resources to overcome
challenges and succeed at the Arab and
continental levels.

I am passionate about sport and athletics, and
about raising the flag of Libya internationally.
Because I am an athlete and have experienced
the challenges and difficulties of neglect and
lack of support.
