The Syrian Olympic Committee was established in 1948 and was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in the same year.
Syria began participating in the Islamic Solidarity Games from the first edition in 2005 and has not missed any edition since.

Syria has won 26 medals in past editions of the Islamic Solidarity Games, excluding Riyadh 2025 : 7 gold, 5 silver and 14 bronze.

Ahed Joughili
Weightlifter Ahed Joughili became the first Syrian athlete to win two gold medals in the history of the Islamic Solidarity Games. He achieved this in the weightlifting competitions at the 2005 and 2013 editions.
